A Thought a Day...

"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves." Matthew 7:15

My first thoughts are about how many stories in my lifetime sound like this verse. Little Red Ridinghood - With the Old Wolf that has eaten Grandma, waiting to devour the poor innocent Red. Or what about the Road Runner cartoons, where ol' Wiley coyote is laying in wait along the road with his most recent ACME device trying to get the ingredients for a Road Runner souffle'.

I remember when Logan, Marcia's Grandson, took the Cree Indian pelts to school and how he demonstrated that the Cree Indian would dress in the skins as a disguise in order to creep up on the game they were stalking. He didn't have all the facts right... Especially how that he lived on the res with his Grandmother and they would go out hunting for Bear and Deer... But he had the idea down right. You can get close to the animal you are hunting by looking like something you are not. And if you look like something that is harmless, or is familiar, you can actually get close enough to kill the animal you are stalking.

How many wolves are stalking me today? How many "harmless" looking animals around me are waiting to trip me up? How many traps have been placed in my path by the Evil One that look harmless on the surface, but in effect are deadly? Back in the 60's it was the sexual revolution... Today, HIV is threatening to decimate the world population. I spent some time looking at some aspects of the New Age Movement... On the surface it is all love and light... Underneath it is a counterfeit of Christian teaching.

Lord, there is a lot of flash and glitter around me. It catches my eye and pulls my attention away from you. But there is often a sinister catch - when my attention is drawn away from you, I'm vulnerable to an attack. Give me wisdom as I walk through the day today. Help me to keep my attention on you.
